INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2025: LEDAP CALLS FOR ACCELERATED ACTION ON GENDER EQUALITY

Date: March 8, 2025

As we celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, LEDAP joins the global community in calling for urgent steps to accelerate progress toward gender equality. This year’s theme “Accelerate Action” highlights the need for immediate and collective efforts, especially considering that, at the current pace, full gender parity may not be achieved until 2158, a timeline that spans over five generations.

Reflecting on Progress and Challenges

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a key global commitment to women’s rights. While there have been improvements made in promoting gender equality, reports indicate that progress has been slow and challenges persist. Alarmingly, one in every four women and girls is killed every 10 minutes by a partner or family member, and conflict-related sexual violence has risen by 50% since 2022.

LEDAP’S Commitment to Accelerate Action

In alignment with this year’s theme, LEDAP remains committed to:

  • Advocate for Legal Reforms: We will intensify our advocacy to ensure that laws and policies protect women’s rights and promote gender equality.
  • Support to Justice: Strengthen initiatives to ensure that women, especially those in marginalized communities, have access to legal representation and justice.
  • Raise Public Awareness: Launch campaigns to educate the public on the importance of gender equality and the need to eliminate violence against women and girls.
