LEDAP with the support of Amplify Change is implementing a project to educate young girls in Northeast Nigeria on their sexual and reproductive health rights through a human rights-based approach. The project which seeks to address gender-based violence targets 2,500 girls in primary and secondary schools in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe to understand, defend, and assert their rights. With the ongoing conflicts in the Northeast, Boko Haram and other militia groups have abducted over 10,000 since 2009, using them as sex slaves, victims of forced labour, and suicide bombers.
Recognizing that the most abused rights of women is their sexual and reproductive health rights, the project will increase human rights awareness among young girls in 200 female schools and communities and equip them with adequate and accurate information to defend and assert their sexual and reproductive health and rights.
