Litigation Counsel


Lagos & Abuja Offices


The Litigation Officer will work alongside the other highly qualified lawyers at LEDAP. This team work will include the litigation officer performing administrative duties and assisting in some legal tasks. The individual might be required to help with research and writing, but he/she is not allowed to give legal advice, determine legal fees nor represent a client in court. Qualifications for these positions vary, but the litigation officer, generally needs a certificate or associate’s degree in legal secretary or legal assistant. A bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies or certification in legal assisting could improve employment prospects.


The litigation officer’s primary duty is to help organize the data behind legal proceedings. Their daily tasks can vary substantially by employer, but general functions include:

  • Formatting briefs, pleadings and other legal documents
  • Keeping track of attorney time records and billing
  • Filing legal documents (e-filing skills are preferred)
  • Transcribing dictations
  • Corresponding with clients
  • Maintaining calendars
  • Litigation Officer will deal with very detail-oriented data associated with lawsuits, so he/she must possess excellent organizational skills.
  • The Individual must demonstrate proficiency in data management software
  • The Individual must maintain professional interaction with clients
  • The Individual must possess excellent written and verbal skills
  • The individual must be familiar with certain court procedures
  • The Individual must be proficient typists
  • The Individual must be available to work flexible hours and manage their time well
  • The Individual must be willing and able to meet deadlines.

Qualification Requirements

  • A minimum of a degree in a related field (An LLB degree is an advantage)
  • A legal research certification is also advantage as individual might be required to carry out legal research on frequent basis.
  • 2-4 years’ relevant work experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Clear, confident, articulate communicator (written and spoken)
  • Good time management skills
  • Team player
  • Problem solving skills
  • Self-starter able to work under limited supervision
  • Demonstrates high level of initiative and organizational skills
  • Able to meet reporting deadlines and work under pressure




Receptionist / Administrative Secretary

Job description

The Receptionist/Administrative secretary will be in charge of the front desk. The individual will be the first point of call and will take messages, receive visitors and provide general administrative and secretarial duties.

Qualification requirements: Interested applicants must possess-

Minimum of an OND (Ordinary National Diploma) or its equivalent in any subject.

  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Always polite and courteous.
  • Must be computer literate  and proficient in the use of Microsoft office
  • Must pay meticulous attention to details.
  • A good team player and can work with minimal supervision.

Project Officer

LEDAP – Legal Defence & Assistance Project is recruiting an intelligent and hard working project officer on its Human Security and Torture Project who will work alongside highly qualified individuals at LEDAP.

Location: Lagos, Nigeria

Reporting to: Executive Progrmmes Director


The successful candidate should have at least three years experience in the areas of project development and management/ advocacy and research, work will include the managing of projects regarding torture and human security in Nigeria.

Key Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Lead the implementation of programmes on Human security and torture from the Lagos office.
  • Coordinate research and documentation of cases
  • Organize and conduct training for relevant shareholders
  • Create and adhere to budgets for projects
  • Carry out project activities and report on timelines
  • Work in close partnership with litigation lawyers
  • Graduate degree in social sciences, humanities, law or equivalent is strongly preferred
  • 3 – 4 years relevant experience
  • Demonstrates high level of initiative and organizational skills
  • Able to meet reporting deadlines and work under pressure
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
